Kenya is wonderful land with lots to offer for a family outing. A family safari would also be ideal where the whole family takes a few days or a week for fun, adventure, relaxation and bonding. Most tour operators offer family safari packages and they can of course be customized to fit the family’s preference and expectations. Some of the best options to take would include game drives, picnicking, fun sports, going to the beach and so much more.
You will certainly opt to do less driving and spend more time having fun or relaxing in a given place. This will then mean that flying around would be the best option. Local flights are scheduled in airports around most major towns and tourist destinations in Kenya, such as Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Malindi, Masai Mara, Samburu, and Nanyuki and so on.
You could begin the family safari by taking a tour of Nairobi city. The city has lots to offer, and you can places you can tour include, the national Museum of Kenya, where there are lots of cultural information about Kenya. The Snake Park of Kenya is nearby and you can watch lots of snake’s species. At the Bomas of Kenya, you can view traditional Kenyan homesteads and dances. The mamba village would also be fun, as there are lots of crocodiles and there is a park where children can play while the adults walk around. The family can also ride a boat together.
You can then proceed to Masai Mara game reserve to spend a night. There are luxurious lodges and luxury tented camps where your family can spend the night. An evening or early morning game drive would be fine where you can watch lots of animals. The meals offered at the lodges are incredible and there are lounges, verandahs and court yards where you can relax together. You can then fly to another game park for another day such as Samburu National Park, Tsavo national Park, or Amboseli national park. This will increase the chances of viewing the animals you missed while in the previous park.
Your family can then head south to the Kenyan coast. There are beautiful sandy beaches, coral reefs and palm trees. Activities to do at the coast include snorkeling, kite surfing, diving, and walking along the beaches. You can also walk around the coastal towns such as Malindi, Lamu, and Watamu. There are fantastic beach resorts.
Picnic places for the family include hell’s gate National park in Naivasha, Lake Nakuru national park, Paradise lost in Central Kenya, Nairobi’s Arboretum, among others. There are also lots of campsites especially within game parks and mountain regions. Camping equipment can be rented at a town near you. There are also many malls in major towns where one can do shopping, and have snacks or drinks.
